Working on my main project

Image
On today's session, I intend to finish my floor plan, which I started on last session. At the beginning I drew my floor plan using hard pencil (2H) and the ruler. Then I ink all my drawing to get a better image after scanning.  I designed and drew ground floor plan and first floor plan. I included space for guest rooms and utility rooms. I calculated the dimensions of the building and drew them in appropriate scale, which is 1:50

Tell Me a Story

Image
This is a story about nature and architecture. Since ancient times people have been trying to change the environment in which they lived for their own needs. The architecture is very important to us, as each of us lives and spends a lot of time in buildings designed by people. From small settlements and villages to the huge metropolis of today, architecture have a great influence on people's well-being. We live in very interesting times, and we can see how many people try to move out of the crowded cities centers to their outskirts, in search of quieter places, often close to the nature. Many contemporary architects plan their projects taking surroundings into consideration.                                               The Cluny House by Guz Architects

Planning Secondary Research

Image
After my primary research, now it is time for some secondary research. I have already my initial idea. I drew a couple of initial sketches and now I know better how to plan my further research. I need to analyse the location of my building, for this I will make additional post. I need to work on developing the shape of my building and colour palette which I will use it. I will research about materials, minimalism in architecture, black in architecture and environmental factors.

Considering my work in the real world

Image
Designing a building is a very complex task and it needs to be considered how it will fit into the surrounding and also how comfort it is and adapted for the needs of people. When I design a building as a school task, I am trying to consider all aspects, from finding an appropriate place to shape of the building. I am doing a lot of research to find information about architects and their works. This is helping me to better understand a whole process of designing a building. I am always trying to think about my project as it is real design which will be built, this helping me to work on it better. That's why I carefully checked the place where the building is to be. I analysed different maps, I looked at various photos, for example from a birds eye view, for better understanding the whole area.          Birds eye view of whole Praski Harbour in Warsaw, curently under renovation. The anatomy of architecture

Image
In this post I will present architectural technical terminology. Firstly we drew a quick sketch, in my case that was a building, which I did in two point perspective. Then I start researching for architectural terminology, to describe each element of my drawing. Glossary of terms These are some of the architectural terminology, which I need get familiar with to understand learn. There is some terms and words: Facade: it is usually front part of a building, that faces on to a street or open space, and it is a loan word from French. It is usually also most important and most decorated part of a building. Arcade: it is passage or walkway covered over by a succession of arches or vaults supported by columns.  Hip roof: it is a type of roof where all sides slope downwards from the ridge to the eaves. Pier: it is an upright support for a superstructure, for example an arch or bridge. Rotunda : it is a large and usually high circular hall or room in a building, sometime surrounded by a do

Further research and the direction of my project

Image
I will start this post from writing shortly about my research I have done so far, and then I will answer the questions below. For my project I did primary research about black in architecture (black is my theme for this project) and cubism in architecture, as my design is inspired by artists such as Le Corbusier or Tadao Ando. I also did research about location, where I chose a place which I know very well in the Capital of Poland-Warsaw.  I did also primary research about materials. However I need to do additional research about this topic.  Le Corbusier Villa Savoye How has my research, so far, informed my project? It allows me to make a basic cardboard model of my design, which I have done already, and this will help me to develop and determine the final shape.  How useful has my research been?   My research has been quite useful, and every next research gives me more information that I need to develop my ideas. Allows me to deepen my knowledge What further research will I carry out

I Hate Art

Image
There is such a wide spectrum of art types and categories today, that it is impossible to like all kinds of art. Additionally, to understand some of the modern art philosophy, you need to go deeper into its goals and assumptions. I personally prefer when art speaks for itself, without any explanation. However, the older I get, the more types of art I begin to understand and appreciate. This is what happened with conceptual art, which I initially did not like and understand. I also think that in my case it is not about hating some art, but rather lack of interest in a given field of art.  As an example I will use modern fashion, which sometimes is just useless. Clothes are designed in such a way that, apart from the catwalk, nobody will probably wear such strange, uncomfortable things.  I do not talk about whole fashion, but some parts of it.
