Alberto Giacometti artist research

Alberto Giacometti was a sculptor, painter, draftsman and printmaker from Switzerland (1901-1966). He came from an artistic family and was interested in art from an early age. He is considered one of most important sculptors of the 20th century. In the early period of his creativity, he mainly made small-size sculptures. However, his most famous works come from a later period in his life, and they have a completely different form. They are extremely tall and slender figures.6

Very interesting are portraits of his wife Annete, which he made eight, between 1962-1965. You can see his own style, where the character is presented in an expressive, dynamic way. The surface of the sculpture is rough and raw, but you can see details, especially of the face itself. He was looking for a more extensive analysis of the human body.

Although he created his own original style, he also drew inspiration from other styles of art, such as Cubism and Surrealism. The example of his sculpture called "Composition"  show his search for the issue of the human figure, both male and female. It is his reflection upon human body and its synthesis.

  1. You have found some interesting mages and started to talk about them well, but I would like to hear about the materials he used - these are bronzes and would have been cast from models made in clay or plaster. His process was interesting and you should show greater depth in your research. You also need t include references for where your images came from. Have a look at this link: https://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-modern/giacometti/room-guide
