Art Portfolio Welcome Post

 Welcome back after three weeks of holidays. I spend this time at home, resting and gaining strength for the new term. Today we were introduced to the structure of our Art Portfolio classes, our assessments and discussed materials and resources. We discussed about our blog, which we will be using as a sketchbook, just like we did in Digital Arts in the first term.

My holidays passed really quick, but I felt refreshed and ready for new challenges. As I mentioned before, I spend this time at home, going for walks or watching an interesting movie or document. One of them was dedicated to a Brazilian architect called Oscar Niemeyer, and about his project-new Brasil Capital, which has been over 60 years old now.

It is an amazing project to design and build a whole new city, the new capital of the country. Practically one architect was entrusted with this task, and build a new, large city in the middle of a desert. It is therefore an extraordinary venture. Thanks to this, we can view monumental buildings, all designed practically at the same time, thanks to which they are all cohent.

    As we discussed in the session, edit this post and talk about the PURPOSE of Niemeyer's designs for Brasilia. He is a progressive architect, both in his practise and in his attitudes to society. Would like to hear your opinion and analysis of the work you have posted here as well.

Location-Port Praski

 I chose Port Praski ( Praski Harbour ) as the location for my building. During my visit to Liverpool I was fascinated by Albert Docks . When I started working on my final project, I linked my experience from visiting Albert Docks with Port Praski in Warsaw, which recently undergoing renovation of the whole site. It is a river port on the Vistula river in Warsaw, the Capital of Poland, in the Praga-North district. The port was built in the area of the Vistula river glacier valley and at the beginning (before the second world war) it was called the New Port. In the interwar period, three port basins were built. The port  was used for cargo loading and as a winter port. later the cargo handling functions were taken over by the Port Zeranski. Until 2012, there was a water station in the Port Praski, which was built in 1885, and it was then used as a floating marina for steam boats.  The port performed its function until 1963, when a new port Zeranski was put into use.
